Mr. Darnell Pickard
Mr. Darnell Pickard, “Tyson” as we call him, is a proud alumnus of South Carolina State University (SCSU). While at SCSU Mr Pickard studied under legendary directors Mr. Ronald J. Sarjeant, Mr. H Wade Johnson, and Mr. Eddie Ellis. In 2007 Mr. Pickard earned a BA degree in applied music/orchestral instruments. But he wasn’t finished there…While at SCSU he was blessed to earn another degree, BS in Music Education, and graduated again as a member of the class of 2013. Mr Pickard has served as Director of Bands at Darlington High School. Under his direction, The Darlington High School Marching Falcon Band received ratings of “Superior” at the Palmetto Invitational in Columbia, SC and The Battle of the Bands in Dillon, SC. The band also received numerous awards and citations for excellence including; “Best Horn Line”, “Best Dance Line”, and “Best Auxiliary”. He also served as the Director of Bands and music teacher for Timmonsville High School/Johnson Middle School in Timmonsville, SC. Although a small ensemble, they performed in local parades, school activities, and at football games. The students also performed with the Marching 101 Band of South Carolina State University during their Band Day activities. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Band Director, Percussion Instructor, and Steel Band Director for Eau Claire High School in Columbia, SC. After only a two year start, the Steel Band has already been featured on the WLTX Sounds of the Season and has received rave reviews for their on-campus, and off-campus performances.
Mr Pickard is the owner of the Lumberjack Percussion Company which is a music and performance company operating out of Columbia, S.C. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and is happily married to Tiffany Pickard. They have three children; Rashaun, Tyson, and Alexandria.
